"Come with me."
You looked up from your hands in your lap, upturned and empty. Your gaze was met with a giant of a man, with shaggy blonde hair and a stubble of a beard. He rested one hand on the door frame of the cell, his eyes fixated on your form. You shrank under his gaze, withering away from the eyes that locked onto yours. He gave a small nod of his head, indicating for you to stand and follow him out of the cell. You glanced down at your hands again, a small, defeated sigh making its way past your lips.

"Stop or I'll shoot!"
The words that poured from the Military Policeman's mouth made his blood run cold like ice. His fist hovered in the air, inches above another's face, already bruised blue and purple from his blows.
Time seemed to slow down as Rivaille stopped, looking up slowly at the sound of the voice.

His eyes came to meet the harsh, cold gaze of a military policeman as he narrowed his eyes at the thug. "Stand up, with your hands up."

With the fall of Trost, the front line receded to Wall Rose, where the remnant forces saw to their injuries and tensely awaited orders. When the surviving cadets of the 104th Training Division finally ascended the wall and were cleared to enter Rose, their superiors reacted with surprise. Everyone had all believed that the majority of their newest recruits had been killed in the initial attack. But no, a modest handful of them had made it to safety against all possible odds.
Truth be told, most of them were mistaken for half-dead. All of them were drained, pale, and shocked to the core, as though they had just combed their way through a living hell. The veteran members of the Garrison looked upon them with varying expressions of weariness, pity, and contempt.
Christa Renz, having heard the news of their return, ran as fast as her legs could carry her to the Wall. Ymir was at her heels, looking rather annoyed.

You and Rivaille walked for hours.
You were unsure if you got lost at some point, or if Rivaille was just strategically making his way through the city. However, the more you walked, the more you could feel your ankle burn with pain. One arm was slung over Rivaille's shoulder as you made your way through old abandoned alleys and secluded backroads. You would occasionally let a small grunt of pain, and Rivaille would flick his dark eyes towards you, pausing and waiting for you to recollect yourself before continuing.
As the hours wore on, you could feel your eyelids drooping lower and lower, fatigue weighing heavy on your body. Rivaille as well, began to grow tired. His steps began to falter more frequently, he paused more often to catch his breath.
There were no words between you two, except for the occasional speech to check if the other was alright. It was only that you reached a large, busy street that Rivaille spoke:
"We have to be careful. There'
